Advanced Leak Survey

Transform your traditional leak survey and repair protocols and benefit from business process automation. Traditional leak survey is manual, labor-intensive, paper-based and frequently error-prone.

Picarro solutions include mobile technology to capture leak data at scale and powerful data analytics, workflow automation, and reporting tools to streamline the entire compliance process.

Workflow efficiency gains can then be realized at each step of the compliance process: forecast, plan, compliance, repair and report.

  • Faster and more labor efficient compliance.
  • Accurate forecasting of projected compliance and repair requirements.
  • Fully automated scheduling of compliance and investigation activities.
  • Enhanced prioritization of leak repair activities to help achieve budget and risk management goals.

Emissions Reduction

Collect and map emissions data to target repair or replacement work and precisely quantify the emissions reduction benefits.

It’s nearly impossible to know – at scale – the amount of total leakage in an area or pipe section even if you know where leaks are. Traditional, inventory-based emission factors are based on historical models known to be inaccurate. This results in frequent under-reporting of actual emissions reduced in pipe replacement projects.

Picarro’s solution enables emissions data to be taken rapidly at scale. Emissions reductions are easily quantified for individual construction projects as well as across the system. Large emitters, which frequently contribute disproportionately to emissions reduction goals, can be easily identified so they are remediated first as part of an informed and cost-effective emission reduction strategy.

  • Emissions quantification data can be used for “methane mapping” to provide “heat maps” of emissions across large areas or along a pipeline section to aid in repair vs. replace decisions.
  • Emissions data measured along a pipeline that is ultimately replaced can be used as a proof point to regulators of exactly how much methane (and how many estimated leaks) were remediated through pipe replacement.
  • Emissions measurements help utilities provide irrefutable evidence of achieving emissions reduction targets.
  • For large-area emissions quantification, individual leak indications are not produced that would trigger a duty to investigate.
  • For identifying high-emitting leaks, only leaks above targeted thresholds are flagged for investigation.

Emissions Measurement

Efficiently monitor, quantify, and report emissions and emissions reductions year over year and by geography.

Picarro Emissions measurement solution creates a measurement-based emissions factor inventory which represents a substantially more accurate record of total emissions.

Methane emissions are at the center of the current climate crisis due to methane’s outsized contribution to global warming. Methane is one of the most potent greenhouse gases, being approximately 86 times more negatively impactful on climate change than carbon dioxide within the first 20 years in the atmosphere.

Methane emissions reporting and reduction is the single greatest lever that may be pulled today to slow down the warming of the planet, and Picarro has the reporting application that should be the bedrock of every utility’s emissions management and reporting process.

  • A novel measurement based, top-down network emissions reporting framework
  • Produces complete and accurate emissions estimates for an entire network utilizing the same data gathered in leak survey and/or emissions reduction programs
  • Modern, Esri-based interface featuring our all-new Network Assessment Viewer (NAV)
  • Robust, scalable, proven, and compatible with OGMP 2.0, EPA, Veritas, E.U, ISO, etc.

Pipe Replacement Optimization

Augment DIMP models with real-time methane data. Apply powerful analytics. Achieve superior asset management.

Conventional Distribution Integrity Risk (DIMP) models are only as good as the historical data that informs them. Plus, risk calculations often give disproportionate weight to just a handful of key threats and sub-threats.

Picarro integrates real-time methane data to DIMP models and then applies powerful spatial analytics and visualization tools to create a clearer, deeply contextualized, and more predictive view of gas assets.

  • Optimize capital prioritization decisions associated with major pipeline replacement initiatives.
  • Develop a more accurate understanding of risk across gas systems system level as well as more granular understanding of specific risk areas.
  • Improve forecasting of annual O&M expenditures associated with compliance and leak repair activities.
  • More efficiently scope and design the construction of pipe replacement projects.

Output from Picarro’s solution for pipe replacement optimization showing the measured leak density on individual pipe sections. This data can be used to complement results of traditional risk models based on DIMP, allowing projects to be prioritized effectively to achieve the highest risk reduction and maximize the number of leaks remediated through capital replacement.
